KSA 500MW/2000MWH Energy Storage Project Marks A New Chapter In MENA Region | |

The Kindom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) 500 MW /2000 MWH energy storage project designed by Powerchina Hubei Electric Engineering Co.,Ltd, one of the Subsidiaries of Powerchina Hubei Engineering Co.,Ltd (Hereinafter referred to as " HYPEC ") is the largest energy storage project that the company has undertaken overseas, and it is also the largest single electrochemical energy storage project under construction by Chinese Companies in KSA so far. After completion of this project, it can provide flexible peak load service for the local, release electricity at the peak, storage at the trough, and improve energy efficiency. Its rapid response capability can effectively respond to power grid emergencies and enhance the stability and reliability of the power grid. At the same time, it can promote the consumption of renewable energy, with wind farm, solar power plant and other renewable energy generation methods, balancing its volatility and intermittency, and provide support for the stable operation and sustainable development of the Saudi power grid. The project is located in the southern border town Bisha, KSA, 160km away from the Red Sea. The Construction scale of first phase is 500MW/ 2000MWh. The Energy Storage part utilize domestic advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery technology and PCS Converter Booster technology. The project applies a prefabricated cabin design with a total of 122 energy storage units, each equipped with a 6 MW PCS converter booster system and four 5.365 MWH lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries. The blade electric core of the battery system is a special energy storage battery independently developed and manufactured by BYD. Its advantages of high temperature resistance, high pressure resistance and long cycle life provide a solid guarantee for the battery system. At the same time, we innovates the selection of prefabricated energy storage converter booster, which integrates converters, transformers and ring network cabinets in a whole, optimizing space utilization, improving the integration of equipment, reducing potential equipment fault points, and enhancing system stability and reliability. This scale of Energy storage project marks a new chapter in energy cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia, and also a new start for our company in the renewable energy business development in MENA Region. |
